Bespoke Africa Safaris
Luxury African Safari Trips
For travelers who want to go beyond the veil of tourism and actually live Africa.
Luxury African Safari Trips — Wildlife, Culture & Adventure Beyond the Ordinary
For travelers who already know that Africa is more than a backdrop, the question is no longer whether to go — it’s how to go in a way that honors what the place actually is.
A pride of lions moving through the Mara at golden hour. An hour in the presence of a mountain gorilla family deep in Bwindi. A fire-lit evening in a Maasai village where the storytelling is for you, not for a brochure. These are the moments our clients describe years afterward.
At Trey Tracy Travel, we plan East Africa safaris — Kenya and Uganda — for discerning travelers who want depth, not a highlight reel: private guides, exclusive conservancy access, authentic cultural exchange, and the pacing that lets a place reach you.
Why East Africa?
East Africa is where the modern safari was born, and Kenya and Uganda together offer a range of experiences few regions on earth can match: the greatest wildlife spectacle on the planet, access to endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, tribal cultures that have endured for centuries, and landscapes vast enough to recalibrate the way you see the world.
What separates a real East Africa safari from a packaged one is the depth of the invitation. The Maasai, Batwa, Samburu, and Mijikenda communities — and the conservation work shaping their landscapes — are as much the journey as the wildlife. That’s the Africa we plan.
KENYA — The Wild Soul of East Africa
Kenya is the gold standard of safari. The Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the finest game-viewing destinations on the continent — home to the Big Five, extraordinary predator densities, and the Great Wildebeest Migration, one of the most electrifying wildlife events anywhere in the natural world. But the Kenya we plan reaches well past the standard game drive.
Private access to Maasai communities. Horseback safaris that move you silently through the bush at eye level with the wildlife. Hot air balloon flights over the Mara plains at dawn. Conservation encounters at world-renowned sanctuaries like the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Expert-guided time in the remote Loisaba and Samburu conservancies, where you may share the land with almost no one else.
This is Kenya without the scripts and without the surface-level tourism — curated for travelers who want the real thing.
Signature Kenya Experiences:
- Private game drives in the Masai Mara with expert naturalist guides
- Great Wildebeest Migration river crossings — one of nature’s most dramatic spectacles (seasonal, July–October)
- Sunrise hot air balloon over the Mara plains, followed by a champagne bush breakfast
- Authentic Maasai community visits — meaningful cultural exchange with one of Africa’s most enduring cultures
- Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanage in Nairobi — conservation work at world-class scale
- Private conservancy stays in Loisaba and Samburu — game-rich land with almost no other vehicles
UGANDA — The Pearl of Africa
Uganda surprises every traveler who arrives. Lush, green, and extraordinarily alive, it is one of the most biodiverse countries on earth — and the home of one of the rarest wildlife encounters available anywhere on the planet: mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Uganda holds approximately half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population. Entering Bwindi — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s oldest rainforests — and spending an hour in the presence of a habituated gorilla family is unlike any other wildlife encounter you will have. Most clients describe it years afterward as the moment that reshaped how they think about travel.
Beyond the gorillas, Uganda offers chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park, dramatic boat safaris at Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Park, a meaningful introduction to the Batwa people, and conservation stories that remind you exactly why this kind of travel matters.
Signature Uganda Experiences:
- Mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s great wildlife encounters
- Gorilla Habituation Experience — a rare extended encounter (up to 4 hours) with semi-habituated gorillas in Bwindi
- Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park, home to one of the world’s densest chimpanzee populations
- Batwa cultural village experience — an intimate window into the traditions and heritage of Uganda’s original forest people
- Murchison Falls National Park — Nile River boat cruises, dramatic wildlife, and the most powerful waterfall on the continent
- Queen Elizabeth National Park — famous for tree-climbing lions, boat safaris on the Kazinga Channel, and exceptional birdlife
- Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary — walk among southern white rhinos being reintroduced to Uganda after decades of absence
Planned with Local Expertise: Our Partner on the Ground (SKYIN)
The difference between a good safari and a transformative one almost always comes down to the expertise behind it. For our Kenya and Uganda itineraries, we work with SKYIN, a Destination Management Company headquartered in Denver with a full operational team based in Nairobi.
SKYIN was built around a philosophy they describe as “don’t just see Africa — live it.” Their team holds relationships with Maasai, Batwa, and Samburu communities, with conservancies, and with conservation projects that simply aren’t available through the standard tour-operator channel. They know these landscapes as insiders — and the difference shows in the texture of every itinerary they design.
What the SKYIN Partnership Brings to Your Safari:
- On-the-ground operational team in Nairobi with deep local relationships and real-time destination intelligence
- Exclusive cultural access — authentic Maasai village visits, Mijikenda Sacred Kaya Forest experiences, and Batwa community immersions not available through standard operators
- Expert naturalist guides who bring the bush to life — not just identifying wildlife, but interpreting the entire ecosystem
- Carefully curated luxury lodges and camps matched to your experience goals and comfort level
- Commitment to responsible tourism and community conservation throughout every itinerary
- Seamless logistics, private transfers, and dedicated in-country support from arrival to departure
Why This Structure Matters
When you book a safari through Trey Tracy Travel, you have two specialists working on your trip: a U.S.-based travel advisor who knows you, and a Nairobi-based partner team who knows the ground. That structure — uncommon among American agencies — is the reason our clients land in Kenya already knowing what to expect from the moment they step off the plane.
Who is This For?
Our safari clients share one thing in common: they are not looking for a passive experience. They want Africa to reach them — in the senses, in the spirit, and in the understanding of the world they carry home.
Our East Africa travelers tend to be:
- Adventurers ready to trade familiar comforts for the bigger-than-self moments only the bush delivers
- Culturally curious travelers who want genuine human connection, not a staged village stop
- Multigenerational families building a shared memory that spans grandparents to grandchildren
- Couples and honeymooners who want adventure alongside refinement and romance
- Affluent professionals who expect every logistical detail handled long before they board the plane
A Word on Investment
A real luxury safari in East Africa represents a meaningful financial commitment, and deliberately so. Strictly limited gorilla permits, exclusive conservancy access, expert private guiding, and refined accommodation each carry real cost — and each is what makes the difference between a trip and a transformation. We design these journeys for travelers who understand that the experience is the asset.
Multigenerational Safari Travel
East Africa is one of the most rewarding destinations in the world for multigenerational groups — and one of the most logistically complex to plan well. Wildlife, cultural depth, and activities that resonate from a ten-year-old to a grandparent rarely converge in one place. East Africa is one of those places.
Multigenerational Planning Considerations:
- Private vehicle arrangements so your family travels and game-drives together on your own schedule
- Family-friendly deluxe and luxury camps with suite configurations, connecting rooms, or private villa options
- Age-appropriate activity pacing that doesn’t exhaust the youngest or the oldest in the group
- Cultural programming that resonates across ages — Maasai community visits, conservation storytelling, and shared evening experiences
- A note on Uganda gorilla trekking: minimum age 15. We build itineraries that accommodate younger family members with equally compelling alternatives.
How We Plan Your Safari
No two safaris we plan are identical — and that is deliberate. East Africa rewards travelers who arrive with the right timing, the right camps, and the right local expertise behind them. Our planning process is as considered as the journey itself.
- An in-depth consultation to understand your travel goals, pace preferences, and non-negotiable bucket-list moments
- Custom itinerary design built around your travel dates, party composition, and interests
- Camp and lodge curation matched to your experience level, cultural interests, and comfort needs
- Gorilla permit sourcing and advance reservation — limited, high-demand, and best secured 12+ months out
- Cultural-experience planning through SKYIN — community access not available through standard operators
- Seasonal-timing strategy to position you for the migration, optimum gorilla trekking conditions, or low-season exclusivity
- A pre-departure briefing covering visas, vaccinations, gear, packing, and your in-country support contacts
- On-trip advisory support from arrival to return
| Window | What You Get | What To Know |
| January – March | Calving season in the Mara, lush landscapes, lower visitor numbers. | Some camps close briefly for renovation in April. |
| April – May | Lowest visitor numbers, lush green season, exceptional photography light. | Heaviest rains; some lodges close. |
| June – early July | Excellent wildlife concentration; building anticipation for the Migration. | Limited availability — the best camps book early. |
| Mid-July – October | The Great Migration, including river crossings. | The single most-requested window. Plan 12–18 months ahead. |
| November – December | Short rains, dramatic skies, very strong photography conditions, fewer visitors. | Some afternoon storms; lodges remain open. |
| Year-round (Uganda) | Mountain gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking. | June–August and December–February are the driest, most comfortable trekking windows. |

EAST AFRICA SAFARI FAQs
How far in advance should I book a Kenya or Uganda safari?
Most of our clients begin planning 12 to 18 months ahead. Uganda gorilla permits often sell out 12+ months in advance, and the best Mara conservancy camps book equally far ahead. We will tell you candidly how much flexibility your timeline allows when we speak.
Is a Kenya or Uganda safari safe?
Both countries are well-traveled, well-established safari destinations. Our SKYIN partner team in Nairobi monitors security and ground conditions in real time, and we provide a thorough pre-departure briefing for every client.
What is the minimum age for a gorilla trek?
Fifteen years old in Uganda. We design family safaris that include strong alternatives for travelers under 15 — chimpanzee tracking, conservancy stays, and culturally rich Kenya days work well.
How fit do I need to be?
Game drives require no fitness. Gorilla trekking can range from one to six-plus hours of hiking on uneven, sometimes steep, sometimes muddy terrain. We can match your itinerary to your fitness level and request specific gorilla family groups when possible.
What does an East Africa safari cost?
Most of the journeys we plan begin around $8,000 per traveler, double occupancy, including in-country logistics, lodging, expert guiding, and gorilla permits where applicable. Pricing scales with privacy, exclusivity, and length of stay.
Can you book a single-traveler safari?
Yes. Single-supplement and solo-traveler itineraries are both possible.
Do you handle international flights?
We can assist with international air booking, and we always manage the in-country flights, transfers, and logistics through our SKYIN partnership.
What about vaccinations and visas?
We provide a comprehensive pre-departure briefing covering vaccination requirements, visa logistics, packing, and luggage weight restrictions for bush flights. Specific medical guidance should come from your physician or a travel-medicine clinic.
